God rejected Saul because Saul did not do exactly what God wanted him to do. Ouch, Saul was just like me.
God is very precise with what He wants us to do and how He wants us to act. He wants a passionate love for Him like David had. He wants a high level of awareness for His commands, as well as a high level of obedience of His commands. I need to improve in both of these areas. Consider praying:
“Father, help me to review Your commands often. Help me to always raise the standards in turning from thoughts of _______. Help me to obey your commands.”
Philippians 3:13 Brothers, I do not consider that I have made it my own. But one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead, 14 I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.”
Second, last week I failed in straining forward. I had a lot of bad moments last week. We strain forward by consistently working on better habits. I could have had a lot more joy last week. I blew it.
Third, after David’s fall he regained a great love for God, and a passion for His ways. At many points in life David strained to do things God’s way. At those points David was great, and he was blessed.
God wants something great for you, and He wants to bless you. What habits will you strain toward so that you go down that road?
Finally, you can quit as soon as you acquire all of the “tools” that you need to quit. Keep working, keep building habits, keep straining forward.
