Romans 13 says to make “No provision for the flesh.” This clearly signals that a Christian who has dedicated themselves to fighting sin, enters a crossroads where they can choose to sin or choose to go down a Godly road.
I woke up in the middle of last night. I prayed for 45 minutes, watched 2 chapters of AudioBible on Youtube, then put the Mentalist (Hulu) on. It is normally a pretty clean show, but not so perfect in that episode. They were showing too much smut, so I hit the fast-forward.
Since I constantly praying about fighting sin, I was fully aware of the crossroads.
Consider praying:
“Father, help me to run from sin.”
Sin leads to sin. Sin even leads to habits that are not official sin. Satan just wants you in that habit so that you are ruined.
Running from sin is a great way to make “No provision for the flesh.”
Second, when we stop viewing, reading or listening to something that will start us toward temptation, we are making “No provision for the flesh.”
Third, wrong thoughts pop into our heads. When we say No! And start to pray we are making “No provision for the flesh.”
Fourth, I get focused on things of the world. To bring myself back to where God wants me to be, I often pray:
“Father, help me to care about souls.”
Consider praying:
“Father, help me to turn from thoughts of _______, and to replace them with prayers like: Show me Your will. I am willing to do Your will.”
God is not likely to have you replace a worldwide evangelist if you pray this prayer constantly. But at some point we start to realize: Doing God’s will is where joy starts. Doing it more is where joy grows. Doing it with purpose is where we can start to have fullness of joy.
Habits disappear when we have fullness of purpose, and fullness of joy.
Decide what you want.
