There are two types of people trying to quit. One type does not have enough activities. If that is you, consider also reading this article.
Others put themselves in a swirl of activities. We are going to stay busy, and not go back to ___________. But sometimes being super busy causes stress, a lack of sleep, frustrations, and other problems. In these situations, it is wise to stop and reset. The Bible says:
Exodus 20: “Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.”
The first key when stopping and resetting is to keep it holy. Consider putting your quitting notebook on your lap so that you can see key verses and key prayers constantly on the day when you are taking it easy. Consider setting a goal to look at your notebook “Every hour.” Maybe just for a few minutes each time, but if you read quitting prayers constantly, at some point, you will have them memorized. When you pray quitting prayers constantly, at some point, you will know what is going on in life because God will start to guide you.
        Second, consider praying:
“Father, help me to be content.”
When I am content, I don’t need anything!
1 Timothy 6 “But, godliness with contentment is great gain.”
        Consider memorizing this great verse.
We work on godliness when we work on the habits of turning from sin, and the prayer:
        “Father, keep me from temptation.”
Every time you read a Christian article about how to change, you are working on godliness. I think twice as many people would quit habits if they said at the end of every article: This will be “Great gain” for me.
Finally, consider stopping and resetting on at least parts of two days per week. Consider watching some Christian programming on those days. Consider spending extra time in prayer. Consider reading/quoting: “But godliness with contentment is great gain,” if you start getting antsy. You can’t read this verse too often, and you can’t pray the contentment prayer too often. Both of these activities are keys to quitting and to a better life.
Which verses, prayers, and ideas will you add to your quitting notebook?
