To be vigilant against temptation means to be watchful. I am looking for ways that temptation might start. I am aware of people, places, and emotional states where temptation may more easily take me out.
When I see high risk, I go into complete fight mode. I see the danger, I can’t fight it alone, I need to be as pure as possible, and I need to be in a repentant mindset where the Holy Spirit will help me.
Second, I need to be wide-awake in my fight. I sometimes wake up in the middle of the night. I know that I am only half awake. If I do turn on the TV, I will only watch squeaky clean shows because in my half awake state, temptation has better odds to sink me.
Satan sneaks into our lives in dozens of ways. Be wide-awake. Look for how he can sneak in. Fight him at every turn.
Third, what situations cause danger for you? What two things will you do to fight back in these situations?

Fourth, being vigilant is like being a guard on duty. We are actively looking for danger. We are actively getting into the Word, and trying to apply God’s Word in our quitting process. We are actively resisting temptation.
Finally, when satan comes into my room and sees me fully vigilant and completely ready to fight, will he give up? Nope, but if he does not start to make progress, he will start to lose the war if he does not pick on someone who is less prepared. Be vigilant, and be prepared. Often, your temptations will start to decrease when you are ready to fight.
