        In Genesis 3, satan asks,
“Has God indeed said, ‘You shall not eat of every tree of the garden’?”
Even in quitting articles, people ask this question. If you are ever with me in person, you will get a very long answer to a question like this. I would say:
“God said not to eat it. I will not eat it because it will cause destruction.”
“God’s Words are true, and my life is always best when I fully believe them.”
“I will not even listen to comments that say God’s Words are not true.”
        Eve replied:
“But of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God has said, ‘You shall not eat it, nor shall you touch it, lest you die.’ ”
4 Then the serpent said to the woman, “You will not surely die. 5 For God knows that in the day you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.”
People will tell you the opposite of what God says. Leaders may tell you the opposite of what God says. Satan will surely tell us the opposite of what God says.
        Don’t listen.
Second, we know what died in Eve’s life. We know the destruction. When she considered what satan said, everything became at risk. When she did what satan said to do, everything got ruined.
Something always begins to die or partially dies when we go back. Always.
If you said the above statement 20 times daily, would satan lose at least a bit of his power?
Eve was excited about how great it would be when she sinned. A huge mistake.
Third, consider memorizing one quitting scripture this week. Search “Verses _____,” fill in the blank with your habit. Pick one scripture that explains exactly how satan is lying to you regarding this habit. Then, every time he lies to you in the future, quote this verse to him.
Fourth, the Bible says that the “Wages of sin is death.”
We know what dies with our habit, but we don’t know what dies with our other sins. But, it is wise to trust scripture. Something is dying with those sins also. Plus, sin leads to sin. At the least, sin kills our joy and purpose, at the most… I don’t even want to say.
Other sins lead back to the habit. A complete war on sin leads away from the habit. A war on sin begins to lead us toward joy and purpose.
Fifth, Eve’s story ends badly. But let’s go to a better story, Joseph.
When Joseph ran from sin, his story ended with him being second in command of the most powerful country in the world. It ended with him being filled with joy and purpose. It ended with him being a key part of saving his home country.
Finally, be 100% ready for temptation. Consider starting to prepare now.
Today, consider what you will add to your quitting notebook.
