Ephesians 6 notes: For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.”
If you do not activate the Holy Spirit to help you in the battle against your habit, it will be like playing Michael Jordan in basketball in his prime. He is way too strong for you.
The strongest activation of the Holy Spirit for people who are quitting a habit is to do a Google search, “Verses _______.” Fill in the blank with your habit. Then study these verses for 15 to 20 minutes, or until temptation stops.
        Rating 10. This always works.
Second, daily Bible reading. I recommend buying a “Through the Bible in one year if you really need to quit right now.” You can also get scripts of how to do that online for free. Others read a chapter in the Old Testament, and one in the New Testament daily. The minimum is one chapter in the NT per day.
Rating for quitting 9. It becomes a 10 as you make doing what it says a habit.
Third, praying quitting prayers. This is complicated. If you are looking back, wanting your habit, the rating can range from 4 to 9. If you are consistently praying them to prepare for temptation, it could be a 7 to a 9.
However, praying is vital to “Prepare for temptation.” Praying is obeying the command to “Pray without ceasing.” Praying is vital so that you remind yourself often about why you are quitting. Praying quitting prayers constantly is telling God constantly, “I want to change.”
Fourth, spend 15 minutes or longer per day trying to be filled-with-the-spirit.
Acts 1:4-5 ESV And while staying with them he ordered them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the promise of the Father, which, he said, “you heard from me; for John baptized with water, but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now.”
Wikihow has steps you can follow if this is new to you. The disciples and early Christians would say to pray for hours per day. Yep, they were really filled with power.
The more you have the Holy Spirit’s filling, the more you will understand why you should quit. The more you will understand how you should quit. The more you will have the power to quit.
Finally, the Holy Spirit is with people who have the right attitude. When Biblical David wanted his sin… disaster. When David was right, he sought God like no other. He had a great passion for God.
I pray, “Father, show me what You want me to do” constantly. I do this so that I don’t start down the wrong road. When I stay on the right road, I can understand just a little bit how David could rip a lion apart with his bare hands.
When he was in God’s will, there was a lot of power on him.
When you are quitting, it is wise to increase the Holy Spirit’s power in yourself. Consider following the above steps. Especially if you are about to go where there are lions.
