Consider having ironclad goals of how you will think today. How would Jesus think today? What can we change to try to think more like Him? First, we can try to always think about serving others. Consider praying:
“Father, help me to serve others like Jesus did.”
Why is it wise to pray:
“Father, what do You want me to do,” constantly? Because, you are saying to Jesus, “I am available to serve. I will try to do what You want me to do.”
Second, do something. Get involved in helping out at church, involved in self-help groups, involved in helping others at school or at work.
Third, a servant sees the person that they are helping as highly important. We humbly help and serve them because we see them as highly important.
Fourth, a servant loves people like Jesus loves people. We are not sitting around quoting statements from quitting notebooks so that we can flourish in a worldly way. We are saying prayers constantly, studying key verses constantly, and going to war against sin so that we can allow Jesus to love people through us. So that we can someday serve people the way Jesus wants us to serve them. Consider praying:
“Give me Your eyes for just one second.”
If I see the world the way Jesus sees it, I will change. I will find purpose. I will start to find joy. I will quit ______ so that I can do what He wants me to do.
If I see the world the way Jesus sees it, I will pray quitting prayers twice as often, I will run to key scriptures twice as fast, I will turn from tempting thoughts twice as quick.
I would do these things because Jesus is waiting patiently for us to allow Him to do something great through us.
Fifth, yesterday I started working on a new positive habit. I quoted statements all day, and I wrote down what I was going to do constantly. It is really helping.
Which of these statements should you pound into yourself this week?
My plan is to quit now.
_________ always leads to destruction.
I will think new thoughts.
I will write down what thoughts I should think.
I will search old articles to find positive thoughts to think about.
I will run from temptation.
I will avoid temptation.
My goal today is to pray, “Father, keep me from temptation ___ times, today.”
My goal today is to pray, (Pick out 2 quitting prayers ___ times today.
My goal is to run to specific scripture when temptation overwhelms.
Sixth, the church says, “This week let us be like Jesus.” That is wise, but the first step to being like Jesus is to pound twice as hard on that habit and on those pesky sins that keep you from purpose and joy.
Finally, when we go to war with habits, we start to get answers to prayers.
“Father, help me to run from sin and help me to be content.”
“Father, help me to think new thoughts and help me to have peace.”
Today, I am going to watch the music video, “Give me Your eyes.” Today, I am going to try to serve others. Today, I am going to think better thoughts. Today, I will increase in joy.
