Sex/Porn freedom in 30 days: day 10

Mike had a huge fight with his dad. His dad was his closest and best relationship. First he had done his dad wrong and then his dad ripped into him pretty good. 10 days free from porn were already gone. Before he even stopped his anger for a minute he was already deep in the gutter. Then it hit him. He had come so far. He was praying and starting to get some direction. He had started positive addictions and activities and it had been working. In total frustration he stopped for a minute. He then looked up and asked “God, why did you let me down?”

The minute he said that he realized that he may have had something to do with the mess. So he bowed his head and said “I am sorry Father, I messed up again”. Upon doing so he felt something come over him. He wanted to keep looking but then it hit him. His relationship with Jesus Christ had been bringing him something real. In fact right now at a dark moment, he felt like he might be able to fight back. He said, Father, help me, give me a chance to turn this around.

Abruptly he turned his computer off. He began to pray and within minutes he began to remember plans for his purpose he would like to do in the near future. He quickly realized that his anger sunk him again. He got his pen and wrote out his strategy for going to war with anger.

Depression, anxiety, and rage are three emotions which lead you back to addiction. For many people Porn/Sex will be an addiction until they conquer the emotion or emotions that bring them back into their addiction. You know that this, that, or fighting with your boss leads you straight back to your addiction. So instead of going back to your addiction when the negative event occurs, you rely on your self help group or your non-using friends. Groups on the internet may be helpful as well because you may be able to find a meeting at any time.

What emotions lead you back to your addiction?

What can you do instead of backsliding when the negative events occur?

Consequences: If we all had a TV monitor which would tell us the consequences of our actions associated with our addiction; we often would avoid the behavior that starts us down a slippery slope. When we start gawking at someone on TV or in person we begin a chain of events with the following consequences. Blowing a chance to find our purpose (any time soon) in life, blowing a chance at real joy (accepting fun and destroying real joy) trading in a chance for something in life that satisfies for cheap thrills, chasing away the Holy Spirit and unintentionally inviting spirits that we don’t want around in.
This chain of events is what always happens. These are the minimum consequences. We are not talking about aids, unwanted pregnancies and other disasters. This is just the minimum disaster that will find you if you fall.
How can you make it a habit to remind yourself of the consequences of your addiction?
Who will be successful in 5 years? The person who works on their addiction for 50 minutes per day and falls every 3rd day? Or the person who works 5 minutes per day on their addiction and only falls every 4th day?
“People fail forward to success.”
Mary Kay Ash Overcoming Addiction Quote

Never give up
Let’s continue to watch people who are determined to quit to see what they are doing. Bill decided to plan out what he would watch on his TV (or what he would do on his computor before turning it on.
Lisa decided to start a 2nd Journal called consequences. She started adding to it and writing out why she was doing the new activities she had learned about.

Psalm 33:18
But the eyes of the LORD are on those who fear him, on those whose hope is in his unfailing love.

Matthew 5 is about how we can change so that we will start to be blessed by God. www.relijournal.com noted the following

The Third Beatitude v5

God blesses those who are gentle and lowly,
for they will inherit the whole earth.

The Greek word for meek is praus and it refers to a strong and powerful horse or ox that was trained and disciplined so that it could be controlled by a human.

The word lowly (or meek) used in this verse refers to a strong person who is under God’s control. They are controlled by God in every aspect of their lives, especially in their soul and spirit. Meekness is more than skin deep. It does not mean that we become weak. A meek or humble person cannot be walked over, but can be bold.

Joy prayed, “Father, help me to choose living in your light instead of my addiction. Knowing that as I learn to like other things to do (over time) – my joy overall will increase.

Read Matthew 7 and First Corinthians 7 from the Bible.

What The Bible Says About Addiction is my new 340 page e-book which is filled with new information about quitting addiction. This book is Based 95% on the Bible (New Testament) with many new quitting addiction idea’s added. Reading it allows the Holy Spirit to renew your mind. Click here to access it. Please leave a good review if you like it.

If you want a review on cravings, read the following:

You say “I want to quit but I just can’t overcome the cravings. So you need to learn about cravings.

Cravings are limited by time. If we don’t give in, it goes away. A craving can’t force you to do anything.

Our mind is in constant change. Change is the typical state of the mind, not concentration. The mind will get tired of craving sex or your addiction and it will move on to something else.

Thomas Horvath in the workbook Sex, Your addiction, gambling and Chocolate talks about how craving always end. They tire (fatigue), then they end. He wrote the following:

“Perhaps the most dramatic example of the fatigue principle is the elimination of hunger by fasting. In chapter 8 I mentioned that craving will increase until it is acted upon. The discomfort is why the craving is motivating, so the craving is often acted upon. But this is only the first part of the story. If the craving is not acted on, eventually it peaks and diminishes. If you skipped breakfast and skipped lunch, you might be quite hungry by mid-afternoon. But if you continue not eating, somewhere during the first 24 hours, for most individuals, hunger goes away. You obviously still need the food, but you no longer feel hungry. You could say that your nervous system got bored with feeling hungry, and moved on to feeling something else.

Just as your nervous system can get bored with feeling hungry, it can get bored with feeling anything. If you’re impulsive and tend to act quickly on your feelings, you might not have realized this. Feelings, like craving are time-limited. Learn to outwait them and your behavior can become much more stable.

You do not need to make a craving go away, it will go away on its own.”

Quitting porn

Porn addiction has unique challenges. Often porn is a compulsively driven activity which seems to fill an empty place in your life. Sometimes it fills a need for excitement and other times it is used to forget pain or distress. Porn tunes out reality and puts you in a fantasy world. Some people take this porn fantasy world to such an extreme that it causes them to lose any chance of having real love and intimacy.

Porn is a giant vacuum which seems to give an answer to a vacancy in our lives. Michael Hardiman in his book Overcoming addicting says. “As the feeling of emptiness increases, the person tries harder to fill it with what is actually causing the emptiness, leading to the futile cycle that seems to be a central element in all addiction, namely, using something to meet one’s needs that can’t really meet those needs, and that damages the person in the process”.

Many people with this addiction do not understand the effects that this habit has on them. The reason for this is there are some direct effects and many indirect effects. First the direct effects. Porn addiction can hurt marriages, jobs, finances, families and many other things and it can be a pathway to the disaster of infidelity and divorce.

But for many people it is the indirect effect that is killing them and they don’t even realize it.

Maybe you just keep staying up late, your job performance suffers and you get fired. Maybe you keep looking at porn and your interest in your spouse starts to decline (statistically two-thirds of addicts experience a loss of interest in sexual intercourse even when they are in a long term relationship. Maybe porn is your priority and your finances suffer because you just don’t care anymore. Quitting porn tip #1: Chris Diggins from Relationship Counseling Seattle said “Porn by its very nature isolates an individual-making him more intent on satisfying selfish needs even at the expense of his marriage, family, financial stability, and career”.

Quitting porn tip #2 When porn has become your master, then you have become its slave. It will take everything from you that you will let it take, then it will continue to take other things.

Porn addiction can lead to anxiety, sleep problems, introverted activities, and severe depression. The short term excitement and pleasure that it gives comes with a ton of pain, damage and lingering psychological effects.

Quitting porn tip #3.To quit a porn addiction the first step is to clean out everything from your house, work and everywhere else that is porn and also to clean out anything that may trigger your porn. Next you need to make changes to stay clean. Uncut movies are often filled with suggestive themes and sometimes nudity.

Quitting porn tip #4 If you look at any nudity or smut you will fall back into your addiction. It will either happen that day or that week.

Quitting porn tip #5 Do not rent movies and do not have movie channels like HBO, Showtime etc. If you get free movie channels that still show nudity block them so that you can’t even surf through them. If you want to find clean movies to watch, use the program guide to that you don’t wander upon a nude scene that will likely put you over the edge.

Quitting porn tip #6 Instead of watching uncut movies the best solution is to wait for the movie to be released to TV. There are 2 advantages to this. The first is that TV takes out a lot of the nudity. The 2nd is that if you didn’t pay for the film and if it is smutty it is easier to change the channel.

Quitting porn tip #7 Always be learning what triggers your addiction. For you, TV shows which talk about smut may do it or nonnude scenes which show people in bed acting things out may trigger you. So always be learning about what triggers you, and always be making changes to avoid these triggers like the plague.

Quitting porn tip #8 However the best solution for cleaning up your entertainment viewing is to find new clean things to view. There are many clean shows out there that you can watch. Develop new habits and routines. Don’t surf on your TV, use the program guide until you know that what you will watch will not trigger you.

Quitting porn tip #9 Watch TV with your remote next to you at all times. Even clean shows nowadays slip into the gutter from time to time. Instantly change the channel if what you are watching is a trigger point for you. Don’t let one minute of indulgence bring you back into the destruction your addiction causes you.

Quitting porn tip #10 Internet Porn. Never keep porn sites in your favorites.

Quitting porn tip #11 Never turn on your computer until you know exactly what you are going to do or watch.

Quitting porn tip #12 If porn is causing you destruction get a porn filter.

Realize that sometimes what you are looking at or thinking about when you are not on your computer can be a hidden trigger that only reveals itself when you turn your computer on.

Quitting porn tip #13 Avoid seemingly borderline websites like 100 hottest celebrities, bikini hotties, 100 sexiest bodies etc. Looking at these people for you is likely the same as an alcoholic saying they can drink just one beer.

Quitting porn tip #14 You need to find alternative activities and entertainment in order to succeed.

Quitting porn tip #15 Make a goal to have a plan (written is best) of what clean activities you can do over the next two days. Do this every day.

The rest of this video will contain material which is Spiritual in nature only. The Bible says in Colossians 3:5 Put to death, therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature: sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires and greed, which is idolatry. So lust = idolatry. Idolatry is the worship of something. Matthew 5:28 But I tell you that anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart. 1 Corinthians 6:9-11 says 9 Or do you not know that wrongdoers will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor men who have sex with men[a] 10 nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God.

Yes God loves you and He will forgive you for your past sin, but you have to stop. Why does God care if we look at someone with lust? The reason is because He knows about all of the destruction it causes. Quite frankly God insists that we live a happy purpose filled, productive life.

To find your purpose start by praying and reading the Bible daily (Matthew and 1st Corinthians are good places to start. Video’s 1 and 2 have a lot of info on how to stop addiction and how to find your purpose. Video #2 has info on how to become a Christian.

Lastly never give up, never, never, never.

Quitting porn #2

I have a 60 day program called Sex/Porn freedom in 30 days (which you can access on the left). With that program I give you a few things to work on each day. Quite frankly I put in way more idea’s in this article than I should have put in for a single read. So you can choose to read this or start with day one of my 30 day program (which you can access on the left).

I usually start these articles by talking about the massive amounts of destruction the addiction will do to you. In this case I am not going to do that because many people know all about the destruction but they still can’t stop. But I will give you the short version. Quitting porn  #1:  Addictions are popular when people have something missing in their lives or when they need to bury some pain or hurt. But when porn becomes an addiction it quickly becomes a dark hole where relationships, ethics and morals become a much lower priority than they should have.

Quitting porn  #2: For some people one of the main reasons you indulge is because that is one of the few things that you feel like you have control over. It is your choice, it is your thing – it is who you are. But this is a cruel lie. A porn addiction is a force and it is a driving force. Quitting porn  #3: There are some addictions that we think we are controlling but those addictions are actually controlling us. Over time porn causes a loss of control of everything.

So why do people keep indulging after they have decided to quit? In most people there is a dueling of personalities. Your mind tells you that you have to stop porn but your pleasure seeking flesh tells you that it will feel good.

Key Point #1 As long as you are ruled by the pleasure principle you will always struggle with addiction. The pleasure seeker may become selfish, immature, demanding and short sited. Quitting porn  #4: In the long run, pleasure which is from an addiction always has a price to pay which is much higher than what you want to pay.

Quitting porn  tip #5: Instead of being ruled by the pleasure principle strive to be ruled by the moral principle. The moral principle is wise and rational and it leads to real long term joy instead of fake short term pleasure which leads to destruction. This principle believes that rules like that of your country or laws from the Bible are there to make your life better. When you follow this principle you willingly give up your solution of choice (porn) in exchange for another activity. Quitting porn  tip #6: The reason you make this choice is because you now believe that choosing an alternative activity will give you the best life over the next 7 days and longer. So if you stay clean today and develop new activities you may have a hard day today but your week and your future will be better.

Quitting porn  tip #7: Always choose the Wisdom of staying clean today so that you can have a good life all week, and all year instead of giving in to the short term pleasure and destruction of porn for one day. Over time staying clean is a lifestyle which is always better.

Porn is an escape for many people. One can escape from tension, anger, lack of success, pain and many other things. Quitting porn  tip #8: We need to get rid of the escapist mindset because our one day of escape always ruins more than one day and it often ruins a whole week or longer. Along the same lines many have the philosophy that if it feels good do it. The problem is, that the feeling good of a few hours usually causes the feeling bad of a few days. Instead of having this damaging mindset, embrace finding your purpose, and living the right way which will lead to happiness over time.

Quitting porn  tip #9: Develop the habit of thinking about other things all of the time instead of thinking about porn.

Quitting porn  tip #10: We can see that being overly sensitive to emotional pain or failure is often a trigger to addiction. So first of all we need to be determined to be tougher and more emotionally ready for life’s constant problems. 2nd, negative emotions can lead us into addiction.

Quitting porn  tip #11: we need to always work on getting rid of anger and other negative emotions which are often hidden triggers. Lastly we need to avoid circumstances which lead to negative emotions (if possible). Good planning and flexible planning can help you avoid circumstances which will trigger you.

Quitting porn  tip #12: John Howard Prin also wrote “In time I learned that if my external motivation was strong enough, then my internal impulses could be curbed.”

For some people a great enough amount of pain or a change of thinking will cause them to change their behavior.

Quitting porn  tip #13: If what you think about has changed, then your internal impulses can be controlled.

This is key point #2. You need to think about the benefits of quitting more often than you think about the experience of porn. Quitting porn  tip #14:  Make a note to remind yourself to do this untill it becomes a daily habit.

Quitting porn  tip #15: You need to think more about the destruction porn causes you than you think about the pleasure/pain relief it gives.

But we have to be brutally honest: we are as sick as our addictions are. If your addictions are causing harm to others you need to immediately get outside help.

Quitting porn  tip #16: Addiction tells us that something we can do (indulging in porn) can compensate for what is missing inside of us. It is a lie. Religion will tell you to quit porn. To control the fire that burns inside of you. But I will tell you that you need to increase the passion in your life. Your life needs to surge with more passion for something then it ever has before. You were created to have a dramatic impact on this world. Most of you have never experienced the rush of knowing what God wants you to do.

Quitting porn  tip #17: “Solutions” Try Christianity. Study the Bible and learn how to get prayer answered (you will learn how in my 40 day program. Pray about negative emotions that may be a trigger for you. Learn to understand that the commands in the Bible are there so that you can avoid destruction and find real joy. Learn to understand the destruction of sin. Pray always about finding your purpose and learn about living in the glory of Jesus Christ. He will fill what is missing in your life but you have to figure out what He wants you to do. God wants you to find your purpose and He might someday want you to spread the Gospel. When you learn how to do what God wants you to do, you will start to have more passion and joy than you ever had.
