Weight loss success in 20 days: day 6

We need to tell ourselves to turn away aggressively from addiction as many times as it takes per day to train ourselves that we will do what we should do. For some people we should say it 5 times per day, for others we need to say it every hour. To turn away aggressively means to turn away instantly from any emotions, situations, temptations, wrong people or anything else that may trip us up.

One big problem that many people have is that they just don’t know what to do so we eat. When urges hit do anything you can to distract yourself. Do some work, watch TV, play a game. An action oriented activity will often take your mind off of food.

If you are a Christian you are told in the Bible that you were created to Worship God.

Therefore, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God 1 Corinthians 10:31

So if we spend a ton of time chasing after other things we are doing absolutely nothing to give God glory.

If you are not a Christian you may want to try it because when we have the Spirit of the Lord with us we will find Liberty.

16 Nevertheless when one turns to the Lord, the veil is taken away. 17 Now the Lord is the Spirit; and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty. 18 But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord2 Corinthians 3:16-18

Look at the HOPE we should have for real change as we focus on learning how to keep the Spirit of the Lord near us. We get the Spirit of the Lord near us when we accept Jesus Christ as our Savior. But we know for sure that when we fiddle with sin we lose our Liberty over sin and over the chains of food addiction.

Therefore make it your goal to do everything to the glory of God. This will lead to liberty over sin and liberty over eating excessively.

Read Matthew 4 and First Corintians 4 from the Bible.

Psalm 31:16
Let your face shine on your servant; save me in your unfailing love.

If you want to start living for the Glory of God, pray about it. Have a time and a place to pray every day.

Also pray: Father keep me from temptation.

Lastly if you are not a Christian but you would like to become one, here is how to do it. #1 Confess your known sins to God #2 Ask him to forgive you for your past sin. #3 Ask Him to be your personal Lord and Savior.

#4 Find a good church where you can find a pastor (usually from a smaller church) who can work with you on your addiction. #5 There is power in prayer. Pray about your addiction. Will God give you an instant cure? Sure he will to the 1/10 of 1 % of those who will stop looking back at their addiction. But for the rest of us who want to look back because we are stupid, there is no instant cure. But we still need to pray because when we pray and are right with God the light goes on in our life. Then if we mess up it is very obvious that Gods way is best and that Christianity is the only real thing we have in the scope of an everlasting lifetime.

What emotion tends to lead you back to food addiction?

Pray five times per day that God will help you to control this negative emotion.

Let’s continue to watch people who wanted to lose weight to see how they did it. Lisa focused on reading books that will help her control her emotions and the things that are out of control in her life.

Get books, articles, advice and add them to your journal. Underline key points of advice and review that advice often until it becomes a habitual part of your life.

Bill is making it a habit to tell himself to turn away aggressively from thoughts of sugar 5 times every day. For busy people we should say it 5 times per day, for others we need to say it every hour. To turn away aggressively means to turn away instantly from any emotions, situations, temptations, wrong people or anything else that may trip us up.

Every day Mike worked at analyzing what he was doing that leads him back to binging. Over time he started to really understand how his mind and emotions played tricks on him. This knowledge gave him more skills on how to fight his addiction.

Addiction is often accompanied by an unknown attitude of:

I have to have short term pleasure at any cost.” To fight this attitude pray: Father: take away my love of pleasure and fill me with a Spirit of toughness. A Spirit of toughness leads to God’s joy because we are saying that we will quit doing the wrong behavior. We will instead be tough and switch to an activity that we only sort of like. But it is an activity which avoids destruction and leads to long term joy and a chance to find our purpose.

The Freedom Prayer

By Tim Hofflander

Father, give me wisdom to acquire techniques to quit my addition

Help me to fulfil my God given purpose in full, or to aggressively train to achieve it

I plan to obey you today and I ask that you would see my sincerity and help me to not only change my eating/exercise habits but to also quit other addictions/sins that keep my blessing far away

I will do my part in helping others and I humbly ask that you would start to bless my health and to give me a chance to help others long term
